The following is the mission statement for the Mt. Vernon High School School Improvement Plan:
As part of the ongoing MVHS school improvement plan teachers will continue to emphasize paragraph development, journal writing and vocabulary development as part of their classroom instructional activities. For documentation purposes, each nine weeks all faculty members will submit representative samples of these activities from each of the courses they instruct.
Mount Vernon High School will be involved in the AdvancED self-study evaluation during the 2011-2012 academic year. One component of this important self study will involve an in depth analysis of the data gathered from the fall and spring student writing prompts. For the first time this year Criterion writing software will be utilized to administer the prompt to all students enrolled in language arts classes at MVHS. By utilizing this software’s scoring feature the prompt grading will be more consistent for all submissions. In order to hold students more accountable for the quality of their writing prompt submissions the grade received will also be factored in as part of their total language arts course grade. With the loss of scheduled staff development days in the school calendar and major corporation budget reductions teacher requests for attendance at writing and literacy workshops will be granted on a case by case basis
